František Josef Jirí of Valdštejn commissioned a Baroque column to be built on the Republika Square. The statues were made by Duchcov sculptor Matyáš Kühnel in 1750 - 1760. The column is of a pyramidal shape and at the top of the column there is a statue of the Holy Trinity. Below the Holy Trinity you will find a Baroque cartouche depicting saints protecting against the plague, St Roch and St Sebastian. The edges of the pyramid are lined with putti. Below it you will see a stone ashlar with two embossments showing a soul in purgatory and lying St Francis Xavier. Around the pyramid there are statues of the Virgin Mary, St Joseph, St John of Nepomuk and St Barbara. On the pedestals of the St Joseph statue and the statue of St John of Nepomuk you will see the coats-of-arms of the Houses of Valdštejn and Trautmansdorff.
