Home of William Almon Wheeler. He was born in Malone June 30, 1819, and made the town his lifelong home.
He entered politics as a Republican and served in a variety of state and federal capacities before receiving the nomination as Vice President in Rutherford Hayes' administration from 1877 to 1881. After leaving federal politics he retired to this home in Malone, and died in 1887.
The house is now home to the local Elks Lodge.
