The Hiker is a Spanish American War Monument on the northeast corner of the triangular Woburn Common. A larger than life size bronze statue of a Spanish-American War soldier, sculpted by Theo Alice Ruggles Kitson, was erected in 1934. The statue honors all those who served in Spanish-American War.

A soldier, in period uniform, is standing on a 3' high granite base. He is holding a rifle horizontally in front of him. The barrel is facing to his left. His shirt sleeves are rolled up, his pants are tucked into his boots, and he is wearing a broad-brimmed hat. He has an ammunition belt around his waist and a knapsack on his back.

A plaque beneath the statue is inscribed:

UNITED SPANISH WAR VETERANS
AND PATRIOTIC CITIZENS
TO HONOR THE MEN WHO SERVED
IN THE WAR WITH SPAIN
PHILIPPINE INSURRECTION
AND THE CHINA RELIEF EXPEDITION
1898-1902
DEDICATED NOV. 11, 1934

On the ground in front of the monument there is an older plaque irregular oval plaque which is inscribed:
