Het knooppunt bevindt zich nabij het fort Rhijnauwen, het grootste fort in Nederland. Het maakt deel uit van de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie en werd gebouwd rond 1870 volgens het polygonale stelsel. Het fort is beperkt toegankelijk.
