Hans Tausen var en dansk gejstlig og reformator, senere biskop i Ribe, han oversat Biblen til dansk og er kendt som "den danske Luther".
Denne kontroversielle skulptur, "Hans Tausen" af billedhuggeren Bjørn Nørgaard blev indviet på 475 års dagen for reformationens gennemførelse i Viborg. Statuen er en forholdvis abstrakt fortolkning af Hans Tausen som med biblen i hånden prædiker de protestantiske tanker.
Anlægsudgifterne til skulpturen beløb sig til 1.340.000 kr., hvoraf de 500.000 kr. var honorar til Bjørn Nørgaard. Projektet blev finansieret via tilskud fra Viborg Kommunes Kunstkomite på 540.000 kr. og via forbrug på 800.000 kr. fra kommunens kassebeholdning.

This controversial sculpture "Hans Tausen" by sculptor Bjørn Nørgaard was inaugurated on the 475 anniversary of the Reformation implementation in Viborg. The statue is a relatively abstract interpretation of Hans Tausen, with the bible in his hand, preaching the Protestant thoughts.
The construction costs for the sculpture amounted to 1,340,000 million, of which 500,000 were fees to Bjørn Nørgaard.
