The Galloping Goose Regional Trail follows the path of the former Canadian National Railway for 55 km from Victoria in the east to the ghost town of Leechtown in the west. The trail was created in 1987 after the rail line was abandoned and the tracks were removed. A portion of the trail is also part of the Trans Canada Trail. The name of the trail is based on the nickname of a gas-powered railcar that operated on the line in the 1920s. The trail is used by many locals for recreation and to commute to work. Walkers, runners, cyclists, and even horseback riders in the rural sections all share the trail.
The Aldeane Avenue parking lot is on the unpaved portion of the trail and is across Sooke Road from the entrance to Royal Roads University.
