The Galloping Goose Regional Trail follows the path of the former Canadian National Railway for 55 km from Victoria in the east to the ghost town of Leechtown in the west. The trail was created in 1987 after the rail line was abandoned and the tracks were removed. A portion of the trail is also part of the Trans Canada Trail. The name of the trail is based on the nickname of a gas-powered railcar that operated on the line in the 1920s. The trail is used by many locals for recreation and to commute to work. Walkers, runners, cyclists, and even horseback riders in the rural sections all share the trail.

The Atkins Road parking lot is the largest on the trail and the closest to Victoria, although it's about 11 km along the trail. It's also the only one along the paved portion of the trail that runs from the start in Victoria to about km 13. The access has a washroom building as well as a bench under a structure meant to imitate a small railway station shelter.
