"Sable, two Battons fleury Argent in saltire." (Flags of the World)

The municipality chose to use the coat of arms of the Barons of Ramstein as their municipal flag in 1946, it already had been in unofficial use since the early 20th century.

The Barons of Ramstein owned castle and town of Zwingen as a fief of the Prince-Bishopric of Basel from the 13th century until the extinction of the family in the 15th century.

I found this flag next to the Roman Catholic church of Zwingen in the town center together with the flags of Switzerland and the one of the Holy See, a quite unusual combination in this area.
