Schambacher’s Inn is now a private home, but it was the 1934 headquarters of the newly founded Hawk MT. Sanctuary for many years after 1934.
It is also written that the Inn was in a earlier time the home of the Gerhardt Family.
Schambacher is reportly not alone.
A luminous ten-foot- tall man, probably associated with the Lenni Lenape Ceremonial Ring, has been reported by drivers along the road to the mountaintop.
The ghosts of the Gerhardt Family are believed to roam the valley at night.
While I have heard the Tavern story many times from many people, & seen it in print & on the internet more often in the last 20 years, this may only be an archetypal ghost story.

In 1969 several of us saw & chased a greenish white light off & on for about 2 hours in a hollow at the nearby game lands. It disappeared repeatedly when approached. For that light we have no explanation.

BTW if you can explain the 1969 light or see any ghosts let us know.

Enjoy the scenery & have fun.
