Gene Campbell (57), Dave Noel (35), Dwight Hodgkinson (25) were trapped by flames and killed due to a sudden wind shift. This memorial, placed at a stone overlook that was constructed with a view of the area burned by the fire, is a short hike along a groomed trail in the Firefighters Memorial Campground in the Ashley National Forest near Flaming Gorge Reservoir in northeastern Utah.
If you are in this area at any time please take a few minutes to walk to this overlook and view the memorial to pay your respects to these brave and dedicated men and to remember all other firefighters, past and present, who dedicate their lives to fighting one of man's greatest natural enemies.
