The cat and dog fountain is a Stockbridge landmark. This fountain replaces a worn original marble fountain that was installed in 1862. This cast stone replacement was commissioned in 1976 and created by Otello Guarducci.
A 2' sculpture of a cat and a dog sits on a 5' high base in the center of a 12' diameter basin. The cat and dog face each other with the cat arching its back and sprays water into the face of the dog. The dog reacts by leaning back on its hind legs with its tail curved forward on its back.
Both the cat and the dog stand on a stylized seashore base featuring coral, seaweed, and sponges. The basin is surrounded with 3' high hedges and planted with flowers.
