A seed drill of this type was used to plant closely-spaced rows of seed crops. Seeds were metered at the proper rate from the large seed box on top of the drill down feed tubes that deposited them in furrows that had just been created by the drill. Soil was then moved back over the furrows to cover the seeds by some type of drag behind the drill.
