The Getty is committed to providing environmental leadership in the cultural community. In 2005 the Getty Center became the first facility in the country to be awarded Leadership in Energy and Envrironmental Design (LEED) certification for existing buildings by the U.S. Green Building Council. Since 2001 the Getty has reduced energy consumption by 10 percent through alternative transportation incentives, landscaping, innovative lighting plans, and waste recycling.
