On June 4, 1988, Kurt Bilbey caught a Mackinaw Trout weighing a record 51 pounds, 8 ounces, in Flaming Gorge Reservoir.

The record has stood against the best efforts of anglers for over a quarter of a century. But shortly after I took the photos there was unofficial (and unverified) news that a larger Mackinaw had been caught in this same reservoir. Better be careful, there may be one out there that will attack your boat, a la Jaws!!
