The Soldiers' Monument is located in the center of the Town Green in Guilford, CT.

A 6.1' by 1.5' square gray granite figure of a Union soldier stands at parade rest on a 12' by 8' square gray granite base. The soldier is wearing a moustache, cap, knee length coat with a kit on his right side, and a cape. He is standing while holding a rifle vertically with his hand slightly spaced apart, left hand over right. His right foot is slightly forward and the but of the rifle rests on the ground near his left foot.

The monument was sculpted by John Beattie, fabricated by Thomas Phillips & Sons Company, and James Goodwin Batterson was the designer. The base was dedicated May 30, 1877. The figure commissioned 1884 and dedicated in 1887.

The front of the base has the following dedication:

IN MEMORY OF
THE MEN OF GUILFORD
WHO FELL
AND IN HONOR OF THOSE WHO SERVED
THE GRATEFUL TOWN ERECTS THIS MONUMENT.
THAT THEIR EXAMPLE MAY SPREAD TO COMING GENERATIONS.
