The old dam was built to provide water power to the McClain Mill also known as the Apple Creek Mill. The dam was originally built in the 1820s. The mill was destroyed in a flood in 1986 however the mill race has water flowing through it. The dam usually has water flowing over it however in times of severe drought it may not.
