The 41 km in diameter lunar crater Henry is named after scientist Joseph Henry. The crater is located on near side of the moon on the southeast side.
Joseph Henry (17 December 1797 – 13 May 1878) was an American scientist who served as the first Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. He was also a founding member of the precursor to the Smithsonian Institution, the National Institute for the Promotion of Science.
Henry did scientific research on electromagnets and discovered the phenomenon of self-induction. He also discovered mutual inductance independently of Michael Faraday. The SI (metric) unit of inductance, the henry, is named in his honor.
A statue in front of the Albany Academy in Albany, NY honors Joseph Henry. A bronze statue depicts a young Joseph Henry wearing a vest and open jacket. He is standing in front of a chair with a coat thrown over it while carrying out an experiment using an electromagnetic device which he is holding in his left hand.
The statue is mounted on the center pedestal of an exedra. The center pedestal is inscribed:
JOSEPH HENRY
PATHFINDER IN SCIENCE
BORN IN ALBANY

DIED IN WASHINGTON

The left side of the exedra is inscribed:
I ARRANGED AROUND ONE
OF THE UPPER ROOMS IN THE
