In Milton, along MA Route 138 and near the Canton-Milton line, is the Trailside Museum, which has an exhibit of rocks and minerals in its general exhibit area.

To get to the Trailside Museum, from the intersection of I-93 and MA Route 138, go north on MA Route 138 straight through a traffic light intersection with Royall Street and Blue Hill Road, then park either in the first or second parking lot on the right. Trailside Museum is between the two lots.

Trailside Museum is jointly operated by Massachusetts Audubon and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (MassDCR). MassDCR also operates the Blue Hills Reservation. There is a modest fee - $4 (2013) for non-members of MassAudubon.

The exhibit was located in their main exhibit area. The cabinet has two glass shelves. On these shelves are small rocks with different colors and textures. There is a card that describes them. The following is a sampling of what is shown:
- a rock containing flecks of gold (the card indicated several people have found no more than a few flecks in rocks - not worth trying to extract.)
- Hematite (its red form - red ochre - was used by local Native Americans for face paint.)
- Iron Pyrite (fools gold)
- Flourite (several items were polished)

It's a modest but interesting look at the rocks in the area.
