This memorial was placed on May 29, 1978 (Memorial Day) by the residents of Scottdale Borough to honor veterans of all wars leading up to then. The monument is visible at on the town square at the intersection of State Route 819 and Pittsburgh Street, the main thoroughfare through the business district of Scottdale.
This monument lists the deceased of World Wars I and II as well as those from the Korea and Vietnam Conflicts that resided within the boundaries of the Borough of Scottdale, a small community in extreme south-central Westmoreland County.
This beautiful modern land wasn't always here. There were several dilapidated buildings until the 1960's, when Scottdale Borough opted to renew the land into a sort of mini-mall, which now contains several modern buildings as well as a gazebo park and a small space for the memorial at the town square corner.
