He is reading a newspaper. Take Scheel's drive north of I-80.
This is one of a number of signs of Nevada history.
"Journalist, novelist, essayist, and humorist. (born) Nov.30, 1835 Florida, Missouri. In August of 1861 Samuel Clemens traveled west. He earned $25.00 a week working for the Virginia City TERRITORIAL
ENTERPRISE. signed then as Josh Clemens, he wrote colorful accounts in a teasing style. It shaped him as a storyteller and humorist. In 1867, an almost duel caused him to leave Virginia City."
The plaque is on the ground, manhole size. Sponsored by the City of Sparks.
