Not prepared for the sticker shock of lodging prices in Jackson during early summer (Motel 6 at $180 for one person?) I did not plan my trip to avoid an overnight stay in the town. After finding that motels with 'Budget' or 'Economy' in their name were still in the $135 range, I happened to stumble upon this little motel on a side street across from the city park. Upon inquiry I found that I could get a room for 'only' $95. Prepared to find an ill-maintained dump of a room, I was pleasantly surprised to find a very clean, well-maintained room with amenities you don't get at Motel 6. It's even AAA Rated. Being on a side street and with only 21 rooms it is very quiet, unlike its counterparts on the main thoroughfares where there is heavy traffic almost 24 hours per day. All rooms are non-smoking and no pets are allowed so there are no lingering odors to be concerned about.
The motel is almost in the middle of the main tourist area of Jackson. All of the in-town attractions are within a two-block walk, making this a very attractive accomodation. Some of the other lodging with prices two, three, or even four times as high are over a mile away.
The proprietor has owned this motel for over 30 years and is more interested in hospitality than in making the large dollar. The staff is very friendly and helpful (they may all be related to the owner) and my one-night stay was very pleasant.
Book ahead if you want to take advantage of this real gem. Needless to say, at the rates charged they never have an empty room until the snow depth is measured in feet!
