Worcester War Memorial was built in 1935 and was located on a traffic island in the center of Lincoln Square. Lucius Briggs & Frederic C Hirons were architects and C. Paul Jennewein was the sculptor. The memorial consists of a circular platform with a flagpole in its center. The eastern half has a semi-circular granite bench and wall with bas-reliefs and inscriptions which include the major battles of WWI. The memorial was dedicated in November of 1935.

During the 1930's it must have been a special time for Worcester. In the background is Memorial Auditorium which was also built and dedicated to those who fought in WWI. Civic pride must have been at its peak and from an economic point of view, Worcester was still a bustling city. I can see the man coming down to Lincoln Sq to read their newspapers, the kids playing in front of the monument, especially with the Boys Club right next door and the woman talking about civic affairs.
