Worcester County Courthouse was built between 1843 and 1845. The front façade was changed in 1898-99 and an addition was added in 1878. The courthouse occupies a site which served as the county seat since it's formation since 1731. It is a large granite structure, mainly Greek Revival in style. The front is symmetrical, with a centered entranceway which is recessed behind four columns. In 1878 a small addition was added to the courthouse. Because of growth a major expansion was completed in 1898-99. The was a design competition held in 1897, which Jacques & Rantoul of Boston won the commission. The façade underwent a drastic face lift. Today the courthouse looks like this was the last renovation.
