A 4km trail pathway, fully metalled path suitable for walkers, joggers, and pushchairs, winds around the shoreline of Huntly's Lake Hakanoa. The easy flat walkway has several entrances, and these sculptured rock pillars stand at the entrance accessed from Lakeview Terrace. There is a small jetty nearby and a carpark. The Walkway is divided into zones, the 13 zones are as follows:
The Walkway Entrance, Huntly College Native Tree Reserve, Seibu Bunri Gardens – Japanese Garden- , McMillan Walk, WEL Energy Trust Global Gardens, Environment Waikato Wildlife Gardens, Palm Beach, Contemporary Maori Garden, The Green Cathedral , Ponga Grove and The Huntly Domain.
The sculptures are carved into the rock pillars, featuring Maori designs, possibly an eel around a stake and flax weaving tool. They are a feature of the Contemporary Maori Garden.
We are unsure who the Sculptor is, but could possibly be Lyonel Grant who has other sculpture works displayed in the Huntly area.
