Central Church was built 1884-1885. It was built on land purchased form Stephen Salisbury III and is a good example of Romanesque Revival architecture. It is constructed on Longmeadow sandstone. It has a high gabel and rose window facing Salisbury Street. There is a 2 story conical turret tower. The church is descended from the Central Congregational Society, formed in 1820 as the Calvinist Church. The congregation's first church was on Main St from 1825 to 1885, when the society moved to this location. The church was dedicated on Oct 11, 1885.
