On May 10, 1785 the Town of East Haven was given its charter of incorporation and became an politically independent from New Haven, CT. To celebrate the 200th anniversary as a Town a flagpole and a nearby monument was installed in Margaret Tucker Park.
The monument has the seal of the Town of East Haven and the following inscription:

of East Haven on Charter Day May 10, 1985 in observance
of the 200th Anniversary of the Town Incorporation and
granting of its Charter.
