The Oscar Meyer Weinermobile could possibly be the ultimate art vehicle! A classic, one that waymarkers everywhere would look forward to having the opportunity to view.

I was lucky enough to be able to encounter the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile when it was attending the Clackamas County Fair in August, 2013.

There are currently 8 Weinermobiles; six are full size and the other two are are mini, food-truck versions. The first Weinermobile was created in 1936 and it continues to be a hit when it travels the roads of America.

The drivers are called Hot Doggers and the competition is fierce to earn the job to drive the big hot dog. Only college attendees who are close to graduating are allowed the chance to compete for the driving jobs, and only 400 individuals can claim they have been Hot Doggers.

The Weinermobiles have had some interesting mishaps over the years; in 2002, a Weinermobile was pulled over in Washington DC for driving on a closed commercial street. Another was pulled over because it had the license plate "YUMMY" which was also the words from a stolen vehicle in Missouri (turns out it the Weinermobile plate was for a different state). One Weinermobile was given a parking ticket for parking the the wrong place. In 2008, in Pennsylvannia, a Weinermobile encountered slippery roads and slid off the road. In 2009 a Weinermobile was accidentally driven into a house in Wisconsin. In 2010, a Weinermobile rear-ended another car during a rainstorm. And in Texas, a state trooper has twice stopped a Weinermobile for speeding.

Each Weinermobile has a different vanity plate.
