The monument to the Waardsedijk reminds the people of Oudewater to the resistance fighters and the British and Belgian soldiers who died. During the occupation in the fight for freedom

The names of the eleven victims following:
Barker, Bird, H. J. Dionisius, P. F. van den Ende, Gibbings, Jakeway, Robertson, Henry Story, Tott, JJ Four Mountains and Whyte.

Johan Vierbergen worked during the war at customs at the Belgian border in Bergeyk. That place was an important link in the underground organization that downed pilots from France and Spain smuggled back to England. Beginning in 1944 wanted Vierbergen to England itself there to join. The Dutch Armed Forces Together with two British pilots he went on a journey. At the French border, however they discovered and arrested. Four Mountains came into the prison of Bruchsal, where he was shot. February 11 after a short trial for "aiding the enemy" by the occupying After the war, he was buried with military honors in Oudewater.
In the night of 9 to April 10, 1943 is just outside Oudewater in a meadow along the Linschoten a British bomber crashed. The plane was on Duisburg attacked by German fighter planes on way back from a bombing. All seven crew members were killed and buried in the cemetery at the NH Waardsedijk in Oudewater.
