Constructed around 1870, this two story Italian Bracketted style farmhouse was built for Fabritus Smith, an Oregon Trail pioneer and state legislator. There is a porch with deck and railing and the hipped roof has overhanging eaves.

Fabritus Smith served two terms in the Oregon legislature (1876 and 1878). He previously was coroner for Marion County and was a leader in the First Methodist Church of Salem. The house remained associated with the Smith family for nearly 75 years as Smith's daughter Velleda Smith Ohmart and her son Roy Ohmart also lived at the home.
