"Arkansas State Police say Joshua Mcmath, 28, of Mulberry, was changing a tire when he was struck by a pickup truck near the Bobby Hopper Tunnel on Interstate 540.

Police said Joshua McMath died on Sunday at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale.

A 2006 Chevy truck struck him Friday around 9:30 a.m. near the Winslow exit on the east shoulder of the northbound lanes of Interstate 540.

Arkansas State Police shut down a portion of the interstate to allow McMath to be airlifted to Northwest Medical Center.

McMath spent two days in the hospital before being pronounced dead Sunday night.

The driver, David Brown, 26, of Fort Smith, has not been cited, but police said the investigation is ongoing.

McMath was expected to graduated from Blue Cliff College in Fayetteville next month.

Sunn Bingman taught McMath at Blue Cliff and said he was a special student.

"I'm just so proud of him for sticking with it. That's where he was, he was going to finish," said Bingaman.

Friends and classmates 40/29 spoke with described McMath as "a good father," "kind," "goofy," and "well-loved.""
