William Heilman is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, a extremely large cemetery on the north side of Evansville, IN. With around 75,000 graves, it is hard to find graves in this cemetery, but this one is very near Central Dr. and is located just behind the interment of a contemporary of his in national politics, John W. Foster. Both have very large grave monuments.
Heilman was a German native but moved to Indiana in 1843. Once in Evansville, he became a very successful businessman and politician. After time on city council, he was elected into the Indiana House of Representatives, the Indiana Senate, and later into the 46th and 47th US House of Representatives. He was defeated while running for reelection for the 48th House.
