Brig. Gen. William B. Taliaferro (below) commanded a division under Lt. Gen. William J. Hardee at the Battle of Averasboro. This marker commemorates the division and lists its brigades and battalions.

This monument was placed by the Averasboro Battlefield Commission and is located near the spot where Taliaferro's Division manned the first Confederate line of defense at the beginning of the Battle of Averasboro.

The marker reads:

DEDICATED TO THE
CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS
OF
TALIAFERRO'S DIVISION
WHO FOUGHT AND DIED
DURING
THE BATTLE OF AVERASBORO
MARCH 15-16, 1865.

The reverse side of the monuments lists the brigades and battalions in Taliaferro's Division.
