This grave is for John W. Foster. It is located on the north side of Evansville, IN in Oak Hill Cemetery. This is a very large cemetery with around 75,000 graves, but this interment is right along side one of the roadways (Central Dr.) making it fairly easy to spot.
Foster was born in Petersburg, IN and later moved to Evansville. After leading the US Union as a colonel, he became the editor for the Evansville News Journal newspaper. He later was a US diplomat to Spain, Mexico, and Russia. Under President Benjamin Harrison, Foster was the Secretary of State.
