The pristine white sand of the Avalon Bay beaches attracts thousands of beachgoers every day throughout the summer. But don't go into the water! Because of an aging sewer system, sewage constantly leaks into the groundwater and then out into the bay. Because any visible particles in the water have been filtered out by passing through the sand, the water appears pristinely clear. But it is loaded with human disease-causing parthogens. So enjoy the sun and the sand but stay clear of the water
