We don't know how long the trail has been there, but we know it was added since 1974. (Mrs. Team Blakelylaw's was a frequent visitor to Roaring River until she went off to college.)

The trailhead pictured is located in the park's central section across the river from the old CCC lodge. There is another access point near the junction of SH 112 & Hatchery Rd. It is a hilly trail in a very wooded section of the park. The trail is only a 1.5 loop. Given the terrain, the length of time needed to finish it depends very much upon a person's conditioning. Parking is available right next to the trailhead.

According to the park's website, the trail got its name from an odd rock outcrop which formed a room-like enclosure. The room is now collapsed, but, according to legend, it had been used as a hideout by Civil War guerrillas.

A self-guided interpretive brochure for the trail is available at the Nature Center and the park office.

The trail is open all year round. Since Southwest Missouri is incredibly humid in the summer, the best times to hike this trail are in the Fall (lots of gorgeous color) or Spring (lots of dogwoods).
