This road bridge was built in 1930 to replace an earlier arch bridge from 1777.

The bridge crosses the Leeds Liverpool canal and the original bridge would have been built at the time the canal was built.

This larger bridge was built to ease traffic congestion caused by the bottleneck from the original bridge that was only designed to cope with horse drawn transport. The bridge carries the main road from the City of Bradford to Harrogate.

The bridge has a brick parapet and the date is on a stone set into the brickwork. It has the following text on it.

THIS BRIDGE REPLACES THE STONE ARCH BRIDGE BUILT IN 1777
OPENED ON OCTOBER 29TH 1930 BY
THE LORD MAYOR ALDERMAN A. H. RHODES
