Wollongong's Pioneer Park is the site of the former Anglican Cemetery consecrated on 13 January 1848. Burials ceased early in the 20th century and during the ensuing years the cemetery site deteriorated and became overgrown. By a State Act in 1940, the cemetery was converted into a public park, ownership passing to Wollongong City Council.

The monuments were laid flat on the graves and the gardens planted over them. Unfortunately none of the graves were preserved and remounted in the park. There is a small brass plaque at the park entrance on which the names of those known to have been buried here are inscribed.

The park has extensive rose plantings which are bare at present as it is Winter. There are a few flowers to add colour. There is a playground for the children & benches to sit on. A sign makes it clear that activities in the park are severely restricted - so best to sit & smell the roses over Summer.
