The Monument to John F. Kennedy was produced by Paul Lancz in 1986 and donated to the City by the Birks Family Foundation. Due to development of the Promenade des Artistes in the Place des Arts sector of the Quartier des spectacles, the artwork had to be relocated because the uses and vocation of the site have changed, and the Kennedy bust is not compatible with them.
Following a formal reflection, the municipal administration determined that the new site was the best place to highlight this artwork. The city of Montreal therefore concluded an agreement with the Fonds de placement immobilier Cominar to have the monument installed at 2001 McGill College Avenue at the corner of Président-Kennedy Avenue.
The siting concept developed by architect Nathalie Thibodeau aims for careful integration of the monument on the urban scale harmonized with the existing surroundings. The artwork is now set on a new pedestal of Québec black granite produced by Les Carrières Ducharme inc. and sculpted by Régis Eroyan. Infravert was responsible for transportation and safe installation of the artwork.
