The gallows at this courthouse from the gold rush days was just down the hall and out on the balcony from the courtroom.

This old courthouse and gallows were restored as part of Shasta State Historical Park, a former gold rush town. The gallows is on the first floor balcony over looking the jail exercise yard. On August 26, 1874 two men were hung from the gallows, which was covered with canvas to hide the view from the general public.
