A placard by the cannon reads:
Cannon
"Old Teddy"
Circa 1812
This cast iron cannon is a Russian ship's
cannon which found its way to this area
probably from Fort Ross. It was jointly owned
between Shasta and Horsetown in the late
1850's and early 1860's until Shasta bought
out Horsetown's interest and moved the
cannon to Shasta permanently in the mid
1860's. At Shasta it roared for political and
patriotic celebrations.
