The bus station has a number of through roads with fairly simple shelters where the buses stop.

Most of the buses connect places in the local Blackburn with Darwen council area. There are also some longer services connecting the towns of Burnley, Rawtenstall, Bolton, Manchester, Preston and Clitheroe.

There are 14 local routes and 12 longer distance routes served by the station.
Interesting architecture:
The bus station is a simple functional layout with only a number of small shelters at each stop. However it is in a good location next to both the railway station and Blackburn Cathedral and also close to the main shopping centre of the city centre. There used to be toilets in the station but are now permanently closed, but there are some in the railway station. The main focal point is a nice lifelike statue of a grandmother with a small child walking towards the bust station near to the entrance. The grand mother is holding the child's hand who has just dropped a small teddy bear and is trying to pick it up. When the area is busy it is easy to mistake the stature for real people rushing to get a bus.
