The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, is a fundamental document of the French Revolution it defining the individual and collective rights of all as universal and valid at all times and in every place. The Declaration of the Rights of Man is and the Citizen was adopted on 26 August 1789, by the French National Constituent Assembly during the French Revolution. It was the first step toward writing a constitution for France.
A monument in Place Chatelet in Chartres commemorated the 200th anniversary of the adoption of The Declaration of the Rights of Man is and the Citizen.
