"The Lions Great Bridge built over the Millstone River connecting the Harbourside walkway with Maffeo Sutton Park. The cost of this project was over $500,000 dollars and countless volunteer man-hours by the Lions Club members. Lions Club Member Al Brett was the member who spearheaded this and it was his vision that made it happen.

Much of the funding for this project was raised by selling memorial and family bricks to the public, businesses and corporations in Nanaimo. The fund raising was a huge task but with the cooperation of all Nanaimo and many volunteer hours it was done and will be enjoyed by thousands in the years to come."
