Once beautiful and most of all WET, this gigantic fountain has been undergoing some problems which has forced its shut down. It seems the thing leaks!

There are seven fountains I know of in this immediate area between Eakins Oval, the Art Museum and Fairmount Water Works. Fortune always prevents at least one fountain from operating each time I visit; today was the day for this one to be silent. This one-of-a-kind, bronze, fish-headed fountains can be found along the far and left sides of the east end of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and continuing up the steps to the first landing. I only visited the right side and the coordinates are for that area. The fountain is a multi-tiered affair, running along the sides of the steps, several levels, each level a large step-up to the next. Three patina-stained, bronze fish heads, a few feet apart along a retaining wall between levels, stick out of the wall and should of had water spouting from the mouths of that trio of aquatic friends. The fountain was installed in 1928. I have read a few articles which have outlined and listed the problems this fountain as had since 1995, most notably a leaking problem which led to cracks in the steps. SOURCE
