The estuary boardwalk begins near the Stewart visitor information center and extends out across the tidal flats at the head of Portland Canal. It's a great place for viewing wetland plants and birds, as well as the adjacent mountains. The boardwalk is approximately 1/2-mile out and back.

The boardwalk is located at the head of the Portland Canal, a 115 km (70 mile) long fjord which forms a portion of the border between the United States and Canada at the southeastern edge of the Alaska Panhandle.
