'Street Scene' is a very engaging bronze sculpture sculpted by artist Marion L. Young in 1993. The sculpture depicts Shakespearean characters from famous plays that are reenacted at the nearby Shakespeare Theater. There is a bronze plaque below the sculpture that reads:
STREET SCENE
MARION L. YOUNG, SCULPTOR
A PORTRAIT OF ASHLAND.
DONATED TO THE CITY THROUGH THE GENEROSITY
OF MANY SUPPORTERS AND BENEFACTORS.
DECEMBER, 1993
The sculpture is very well sculpted and the faces of every character are brought to life with expressions that embody the spirit of Ashland as a cultural mecca for visitors from all over the area to come to appreciate the different walks-of-life that frequent this small city.
There are also donor plaques and tiles of individuals who helped to make this sculpture a reality. The only reservation I have regarding this sculpture is that it is tucked away somewhat and almost not visible from the sidewalk as you walk by. It seems hidden, unintentionally, and would have been better served being closer and more out in the open closer to the Shakespeare Theater just down the street from here.
