The original Bayswater Post Office was built on this site in 1895, that part of the building being the pyramid shaped corrugated roof and chimney.

Originally it was a receiving office and in 1898 upgraded to a post and telegraph office with Mrs Smeed being the first postmistress. The post office was upgraded in the 1920s and again in 1935 before becoming obsolete due to the population growth.

The building is now the local Bendigo Bank.
