The Brentwood Bay - Mill Bay ferry route is called "Vancouver Island's most beautiful shortcut", running across Saanich Inlet and bypassing the Malahat Drive portion of the Trans-Canada Highway. The 25 minute, 3 nautical mile crossing began operation in November 1924 and is the oldest continuous ferry service on the coast of British Columbia. The route has been served by the M/V Klitsa, which can carry 22 cars, since June 1, 2011.
