Mise en service en 1857, la gare est gérée par la société nationale des chemins de fer.
Elle est desservie par le TER Lorraine ainsi que, depuis 2007, par le TGV Est. L'arrivé du TGV met Épinal à 2H30 de Paris environ.
Avec ses 3 quais, la gare est un lieu de passage fréquenté des trains régionaux.

Today, the station is the crossing point of local trains (called TER), and the high-speed train (called TGV).
