VIA Rail Station in Cobourg was built for Grand Trunk Railways in 1911. When Canadian National took over the Grand Trunk routes in mid 1923, that railroad assumed control of this station.
CN operated passenger train service to Cobourg until 1978, when almost all passenger service in Canada was assumed by VIA Rail Canada.
